Your rights

The Family Doctors Plus’s Patient Charter describes the rights of patients using their General Practice services. The Charter recognises that people receiving General Practice services and the people providing them all have important parts to play in achieving healthcare rights. It allows the service providing healthcare to share an understanding of the rights of people receiving their service, fostering a collaborative effort towards a safe and high-quality system to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Safety

The Family Doctors Plus prides itself on providing safe, high-quality General Practice services to its patients. Patients are encouraged to inform any staff member if they have concerns about safety or believe an error has been made. A patient’s right to safe, high-quality care relies on open, clear communication, which includes providing the necessary information to deliver the correct service and informing patients of what they need to know to make the right decisions about their care.

Respect

All patients are treated with respect, dignity, and consideration at all times. The practice ensures that patients are safe and comfortable and, as far as possible, provides services in surroundings that allow personal privacy. Patients are treated with regard to their religious and cultural beliefs and maintain their rights to be treated without discrimination based on age, race, gender, sexual orientation, carer status, disability, or marital status.

Quality

The Family Doctors Plus is committed to the practice of quality General Practice and aims to be the best. They strive to provide the best facilities and equipment, recruit and retain the very best staff, and constantly review and measure their own performance to identify opportunities for improvement.

Communication

The Family Doctors Plus will provide clear and concise information and explanations on all aspects of procedures to enable full patient participation. Patients are encouraged to ask questions and seek clarity. If a patient wishes to decline or discontinue a consultation, prescription, or procedure, doctors will advise them of the risks, consequences, and responsibilities of this decision.

Participation

Patients are asked to assist by participating as much as possible in their care. This includes providing complete and accurate information about their medical condition, history, medications, and any other factors relevant to their care. Patients should inform the practice if they do not understand any aspect of the information provided. The staff is always willing to explain any aspect of an examination.

Patients are also encouraged to keep their appointments and give reasonable notice if they need to cancel or reschedule a visit. Treating staff, fellow patients, and visitors with respect and courtesy is essential. Additionally, patients should provide up-to-date financial and health insurance information by completing any required forms before leaving.

Privacy

Family Doctors Plus is committed to protecting and respecting patients’ privacy. All information is securely stored on their patient information systems. Patient information and results will only be released to authorised individuals, such as the referring doctor and the General Practice staff caring for the patient. For further information, please refer to the Privacy Statement.

Rights and Responsibilities

At Family Doctors Plus, the health and well-being of every patient is very important. All General Practice departments are committed to ensuring the rights of patients and consumers. For information, refer to the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights. The Charter allows patients, consumers, families, carers, and healthcare services to share an understanding of the rights of people receiving healthcare.
