Tips for a healthier pregnancy #4

Gone are the days when doctors used to recommend that pregnant women stop exercising. Most of you will be able to continue with your exercise programs. Studies have shown that it is actually beneficial to exercise in pregnancy. Of course speak to your doctor about what exercise you participate in and whether it is appropriate for you to continue. We recommend that if you participate in contact sports you find an alternative, that you wear comfortable clothes, drink plenty of water and pay attention to your balance. Your centre of gravity changes when you are pregnant. That combined with increased laxity in your ligaments can increase strains eg, ankle strains. However if you get the tick of approval from your doctor, look after yourself and make note of the changes in your centre of gravity you should be able to continue exercising safely in pregnancy.
