Dr Maria Boulton has enjoyed working in general practice and occupational health for almost two decades. She completed her medical degree at The University of Queensland in 2002 and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
Dr Maria does not have the capacity to take on new patients. However, there are other experienced GPs who can assist new patients.
Dr Maria is experienced in all aspects of general practice. She has also worked in Queensland hospitals. Dr Maria’s interests include women’s, men’s, children’s, occupational and travel health. She is experienced in skin cancer screening and management. Dr Maria has always enjoyed working with babies, children and young adults, all the more so since starting her own family. She has a special interest in the management of food allergies, eczema, anaphylaxis and asthma in children. Dr Maria has provided education sessions on asthma, puberty, anaphylaxis and menopause to community groups and primary schools.
Dr Maria is passionate about preventive medicine, continuity of care and ongoing education. Dr Maria values good communication between patients, doctors, allied health providers and non GP specialists and works together with experienced healthcare professionals to improve her patients’ wellbeing.
Dr Maria’s book Mum’s Guide to Pregnancy was published in 2017. This book is a summary of the up-to-date, practical medical advice that she is known for, delivered in her warm and caring manner. Dr Maria’s book aims to empower parents with the knowledge they need to help them through the pregnancy rollercoaster and be well informed on how to improve their health and their baby’s health.
Dr Maria completed the Healthcert Advanced Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine and Professional Certificate of Clinical Procedures and is experienced in skin cancer screening and management. She completed the Monash University Certificate in Clinical Occupational Medicine Short Course and is a qualified AMA (Appointed Medical Advisor) and is able to perform work / pre-employment / coal / mineral mine and quarry medicals (both Queensland and NSW mine medicals) and provide all travel vaccinations.
Dr Maria is a member of the AICD (GAICD), Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Australian Medical Association (AMA), Queensland Medical Women’s Society, Australian GP Alliance, Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine and a founding member of the Australian Lifestyle Medicine Association. She is a registered Appointed Medical Advisor for the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines and Coal Services NSW.
Dr Maria is the current President of AMA Queensland, past Chair of the AMA Queensland Committee of General Practice and member of the AMA Queensland Council since 2019. She is a past member of the RACGP REC Funding and Health System Reform Group, the RACGP Business Sustainability Working Group and the RACGP Private Practice Owner’s Steering Committee. She is a past Director of the Australian GP Alliance. She is the past Vice President of the Queensland Medical Women’s Society.
Dr Maria is an experienced public speaker, conference keynote speaker and sought-after medical commentator, regularly featuring in mainstream media. Dr Maria is a passionate advocate for the medical and wider community including during the COVID-19 pandemic on issues such as PPE supply for healthcare workers, Telehealth Medicare rebates and increased funding for mental health.
Dr Maria has been invited to speak at various conferences/meetings by the AMA and AMA Queensland, RACGP, Ikigai Women and Medicine, Australian Federation of Medical Women and has featured in the RACGP podcast Generally Speaking.
Dr Maria and Dr Fiona Raciti were awarded the 2017 Queensland Telstra Business of the Year and New Business of the Year. Dr Maria was named one of the 100 Faces of Small Business Queensland for 2018. She was a finalist in the 2018 Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Business Award in the Businessperson of the Year category.
Dr Maria is happily married with two children (Family Doctors Plus is her third child) and enjoys boating and reading in her spare time.
