Your rights

The Family Doctors Plus’s Patient Charter describes the rights of patients using our General Practice services. The Charter recognises that people receiving General Practice services and the people providing them all have important parts to play in achieving health care rights. It allows us as a service providing healthcare to share an understanding of the rights of people receiving our service. This shared understanding helps us all to work together towards a safe and high quality system to allow best possible outcomes.

Safety

The Family Doctors Plus prides itself on providing safe, high quality General Practice services to its patients. Please advise any of our staff if you have a concern about safety, or think an error has been made. Your right to safe, high quality care relies on open, clear communication. This means giving us the information we need to provide the correct service and telling you what we need to know to make the right decisions about your care.

Respect

All our patients are treated with respect, dignity and consideration at all times. We ensure that you are safe and comfortable and as far as possible, provide our services in surroundings that allow personal privacy. We will treat you with regard to your religious and cultural beliefs and maintain your rights to be treated without discrimination based on your age, race, gender, sexual orientation, carer status, disability or marital status.

Quality

We are committed to the practice of quality General Practice – we aim to be the best. We strive to provide the best facilities and equipment, recruit and retain the very best staff and constantly review and measure our own performance to identify opportunities for improvement.

Communication

We will provide clear and concise information and explanations on all aspects of your procedure to enable you to fully participate. We encourage you to ask questions and seek clarity. Should you wish to decline or discontinue with your consultation, prescriptions or procedure, our doctors will advise you of the risks, consequences and responsibilities of this decision.

Participation

We ask you to assist us by participating as much as possible in your care; you can do this by providing complete and accurate information about your medical condition, history, medications and any other factor which may be relevant to your care.

Let us know if you do not understand any aspect of information we give you. We are always happy to explain any aspect of your examination.

Keep your appointments and give reasonable notice if you need to cancel or re-schedule your visit.

Treat our staff, fellow patients and visitors with respect and courtesy.

Rights and Responsibilities

At Family Doctors Plus, the health and wellbeing of every patient is very important to us.

All our General Practice departments are committed to ensuring the rights of patients and consumers. For information refer to the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights.
